The autumn conference season begins

By rebecca | Thursday, September 27th, 2007

The nights are drawing in, there’s a chill in Trampoline HQ… must be time to embark on a new round of conference appearances! Charles Armstrong, Trampoline’s CEO, is going to be venturing far and wide over the next couple of months, speaking at three events in Europe and the US.

At ETRE Charles will be giving a corporate presentation, introducing the conference attendees to Trampoline and his views on the future of enterprise software. You can catch him at 3:30pm on Monday 8th October. The conference itself is taking place from 7-10th October in Budapest, Hungary.

In November its off to the US for two more conferences. Defrag is in it its first year and looks set to be a hot event, exploring the space that lives in between knowledge management, “social” networking, collaboration and business intelligence – just the space Trampoline’s technology sits in. Charles is taking part in a panel session on Social Networking in the Enterprise at 1:15 pm on Monday 5th November.

It’s then time for a short hop to San Jose for KM World and Intranets. The theme for this year is KM 2.0: A New World for the Enterprise and the conference program will be exploring new ways to exchange knowledge within the enterprise. Charles is going to be opening the track Enterprise of the Future: Strategies at 10:30am on Wednesday 7th November with a session entitled Enterprise 2.0: Enterprise of the Future.

Oracle Sales Star Joins Trampoline Systems

By Charles Armstrong | Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

London, UK, 11th September 2007 – Trampoline Systems, a London-based enterprise software developer, announces the appointment of Adrian Jones as Vice President of Sales. Adrian brings to Trampoline 25 years of experience in enterprise technology sales and establishing new products in the marketplace. He joins Trampoline from Oracle Corporation, where he served as the top salesman globally in the Oracle Embedded Business Unit. At Trampoline Adrian will lead sales strategy and execution, establishing a global sales force to cement Trampoline’s position as a pioneer in next-generation enterprise software. Adrian arrives just weeks after Microsoft hotshot Peter Biddle, who joined Trampoline as Vice President of Development in August 2007.

Adrian specialises in establishing new businesses and technology in Europe. Prior to his tenure at Oracle Adrian was Managing Director of Sleepycat Europe Ltd. where he was responsible for building the Berkeley DB business in Europe and managing the acquisition of the company by Oracle in 2006. Adrian was Vice President of EMEA at Versant for eight years before this. At Versant he oversaw the company’s European operations, led the growth of Versant from number four to number one in the object database market in Europe and opened up the financial sector to Versant’s technology.

Adrian says: “I am delighted to be joining Trampoline at such an exciting time for the company and the industry. Trampoline’s technology is uniquely positioned to meet the needs of today’s global enterprises as they intensify their focus on the social networks which are so crucial for collaboration and innovation. I look forward to honing Trampoline’s sales strategy, further strengthening the valued partnership between Oracle and Trampoline and building Trampoline’s presence in this growing market.”

Charles Armstrong, Chief Executive Officer of Trampoline Systems, says: “Adrian’s extraordinary successes at Oracle and Sleepycat are a testament to his intuition for the needs of large enterprises. Adrian’s specific experience introducing emerging technologies to new markets will be hugely valuable for SONAR and future product releases. I’m thrilled he’s joining the team as we continue to establish Trampoline as the leading provider of next-generation software for the enterprise.”

Trampoline provides software that harnesses social behaviour in the workplace. The company’s products offer a simple way of identifying knowledge assets, expertise and relationship networks within an organisation, enhancing productivity and efficiency and bringing archived information to life. By uniting information with the social behaviour which surrounds it, organisations can empower their employees to find the people and answers they need.

@media Ajax 2007

By mike | Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

I have the honour and terror of presenting at @media Ajax on home turf this November. It’s a privilege to be speaking alongside the likes of Brendan Eich (creator of Javascript), Douglas Crockford (inventor of JSON), John Resig (JQuery lead) and about a dozen other top dogs.

In a lineup like that I clearly can’t talk about nuts and bolts Javascript. Instead I’m taking a slightly unusual tack for me: revelations. Since Ajax came along my job has changed in ways I wouldn’t have predicted. Technically I’m a flavour of designer yet after many years of specialising I’ve found myself having to skill up again.

  • To keep a handle on what the rest of the team produce I’ve become a testing fanatic;
  • I’ve had to go back and relearn how to program – not to necessarily produce back-end code but to understand what the real implications of my design decisions are;
  • I’ve been converted to Agile practices as a means of effective collaboration.

None of these things are traditionally within the remit of ‘design’ but they all feed into producing a successful app. To try and describe these changes and what I’ve done about them I will be presenting But I’m a Bloody Designer! on the first day, straight after the keynote by the Ajaxians.

So, the lineup’s great, it’s in London. @media Ajax: coming soon. Say hello if you decide to come…
